# Cotask

> The simplest task manager for one person — and for the AI agents that work with them. Native apps
> on iPhone and Mac, with an MCP server and a REST API over the same account, so an assistant can
> read tasks, propose new ones as drafts, and attach the sources and files it worked with.

Cotask is a personal task manager, not a team issue tracker. A task has a title, notes, a status
(backlog, draft, todo, doing, done), an optional project, due date, priority and recurrence, an
optional reminder (an exact moment the task rings at, ordinarily or *urgently* — an alarm that rings
the user's iPhone through silent mode and Focus), at most
one task that blocks it, and attachments — links and files, each with a public URL that needs no
credentials. Anything an agent creates lands in Drafts until the user accepts it.

## For agents

- MCP server: `https://usecotask.com/mcp` — OAuth 2.1 sign-in,
  or `Authorization: Bearer pl_<agent key>`.
- REST API: the same base without `/mcp` — `GET /tasks`, `POST /tasks`, `PATCH /tasks/:id`,
  `POST /tasks/:id/attachments`, `POST /tasks/:id/files`, `GET /projects`, `GET|POST /webhooks`.
- Tools: list_tasks, get_task, create_task, update_task, complete_task, set_reminder, delete_task,
  add_attachment, attach_file, remove_attachment, list_projects, create_project,
  list_delegate_routes, delegate_task, get_delegation.
- Reminders: `set_reminder` takes `remind_in` ("45m", "2h") or `remind_at` — a timestamp with no zone
  is read on the user's own clock — and `urgent: true` for the alarm. Only urgent when they asked for
  something urgent.
- Create tasks as drafts unless the user asked otherwise; agents may only delete their own drafts.
- Finishing a task: `complete_task` with a `note` saying what you did and where the result is — the
  note of completion, kept apart from the task's `notes`.
- Delegate to AI: the user sends a task to a route — a webhook, or Claude Code / Codex on their Mac,
  run by the Cotask Mac app. When the user asks, an agent can do the same with `delegate_task`
  (a route from `list_delegate_routes`; follow a Mac run with `get_delegation`) — the route's model,
  effort, folder and access stay the user's. If you were handed a task that way, close it with
  `complete_task`; that is what moves it out of Doing.
- `402` means the user's plan (Free or Cotask Pro) doesn't include what you tried — reminders,
  blockers, completion notes, or storage past 100 MB. Tell them rather than retrying.
